Open Field seeks to widen our collective imagination about outdoor narratives - who lives and tells the stories of adventures, environmental degradation, and the frontlines of climate change.

Open Field focuses primarily on supporting non-traditional outdoor and environmental narratives through film, print, speaking engagements, and storytelling training.

In 2023, Open Field has worked with the Conservation Law Foundation, 100 Miles, the Merwin Conservancy, UVM, the Vinalhaven Public Library, ECO Americorps, and several schools and groups of emerging climate leaders.

Advocacy and Frontline Work

Open Field provides accessible environmental storytelling skills so that readers can broaden their understanding of the way the climate crisis affects all people and communities. Everyone should be able to join a conversation about the environment.

Open Field offers environmental storytelling services and training to non-profits and people engaging with the climate crisis or industry conflict. We also facilitate workshops so that all writers and citizens - such as those in schools, frontline communities, unions, fisheries, fields, or advocacy groups - feel comfortable adding their voices to the dialogue surrounding our imperiled planet.

Open Field can support the narratives of advocacy work; edit op-eds; create media strategies and press releases; coach lawyers, activists, and scientists on first person stories; or simply help new and non-traditional writers bear witness to environmental degradation and loss.

If you’d like to be involved, or your community would benefit from this type of training, please contact: openfieldwriters@gmail.com. Support is offered on a sliding scale, and free for those engaged in environmental justice initiatives.
